For great views over Otago Harbour and the city, the walk up to Signal Hill (393 meters) is a must do. From the top, there are far reaching panoramas stretching across Dunedin. The summit is marked by a monument commemorating the 1940 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Waitangi (New Zealand’s founding document).
The monument incorporates bronze figures symbolizing the past and the future and contains a piece of rock from Edinburgh Castle, which was an anniversary gift from Scotland. The track up the hill is accessed from Opoho Road and Signal Hill Road.
